Mail and Parcel Centers considered "Essential Business”
You are likely hearing reports of cities throughout the US declaring "Shelter in place" orders for residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yesterday, six San Francisco Bay Area counties ordered all non-essential businesses to cease operating and for community members to follow social distancing procedures.
Mail and Parcel Centers were deemed excluded from that mandate by these municipalities since they are considered essential businesses.
Essential businesses, such as ours, are needed by our customers, the general public, and the business community. Essential Businesses are defined by the Department of Homeland Security (Presidential Policy Directive 21).
Our business meets the criteria for Essential Businesses under four categories:
1. Businesses providing mail and shipping services, including post office boxes.
2. Businesses that supply products needed for people to work from home.
3. Businesses that supply other essential businesses with support or supplies necessary to operate.
4. Professional services, such as legal and accounting services, when necessary to assist in compliance with legally mandated activities.
It is critical that our community continues to have access to these services. Shipping, mail, package receiving, (especially given the recent expansion of online ordering), notary and live scan services, office supplies, printing, faxing, etc.
UPS, FedEx, and the USPS continue to make pickups and deliveries. However, drivers may now release shipments without a signature. If an adult signature is required, they may now affix a form on the customer's door for them to sign, allowing for the safe collection of a signature and delivery of a parcel.
At Lomita Post & Parcel, we will continue to provide the necessary services of our Pack & Ship Center to the community. We realize that some of our local patrons and mailbox customers may not wish or may not be able to leave their premises to check mail or send packages. We have started a local pick-up and delivery service for a small $3 fee which will minimize human contact. Please call (424) 363-7447 to schedule a pick-up or delivery as time slots will be taken on a first come, first served basis.
